how can I stop my cursor from jumping to different places or disappearing
while I am typing?

You are probably using a notebook with a touchpad mouse thingy and you are
inadvertently brushing across that pad as you type. You can probably reduce
the sensitivity of the thing or turn it off and use an external mouse.

And if that's not the issue, there was a window size/zoom bug in Word 2007
(it's been fixed now) that could cause the screen to jump while typing if
the window was sized or zoomed so that the horizontal scroll bar is showing.
That bug was fixed by one of the service packs. So, if you are using Word
2007 and haven't applied the latest service pack, the doing so should
resolve the issue.
