While typing text in Microsoft Word and Outlook Express, my cursor has an anxiety disorder. It jumps all over the place without provocation. Please help if you've had this problem and know how to fix it. Thanks (the cursor repositioned itself twice in this message!)

Is it an optical mouse? (i.e. no ball in the bottom of it). I've had this happen a couple of times and I just had to blow on the sensor to clean it.

Thank you kindly for your suggestions. I have a laptop--cleaned bottom of mouse, gave it some cheese, but no luck. It still has a serious anxiety disorder and flits all over the place. Is there a cat hiding in the hardware?

I take it you are using a USB mouse then ? Go into computer management and try updating the mouse drivers.

I'd also give another mouse a try like Mucks suggested, as it could just be a goner .
