can you pass protect spell check so kids will not use it? I know how to turn
it off but they know how to turn it on. If there is not a way to pass
protect, any suggestions?

How much do they know about turning it on?

You can turn off "check spelling as you type."

However, you could also force the text to default to the having the "do not
check spelling and grammar" format applied. It might take them a little
longer to figure that one out.

You could also delete the menu commands that give them the easiest access to
these functions, but keyboard commands would still work.
