Word XP, Scanning problem. NEED HELP!

Hi, I'm having a problem with scans into Word XP using the
"Insert>Picture>From Scanner or Camera..." dialogue. (Twain acquire)

When I scan a document, the scanned item 'appears' in the Word doc after the
scan is complete (as it should), but the image is screwed up:

The left-side full-height vertical quarter-page is at the far right edge of
the scan image.

Graphically, it looks like this:
ORIGINAL: In the Word doc:
ABCD BCDA
ABCD BCDA
ABCD BCDA
ABCD BCDA

The scanner scans properly with its own software. The scanner also scans
properly with both non-Microsoft and other Microsoft applications (like MS
Office Document Scanning, Photoshop, etc.). This problem is exclusive to
Word.

Regretfully, MS will not provide support on this because I have a Student
edition (Something about the licensing for it... LAME). Please help me out
here, I'm really stuck and I need to scan in a bunch of stuff soon.

You get much more control if you scan the document externally from Word and
insert the resulting picture as a file.

'Control' is not the issue here Graham, thanks though.

I know I can scan an item, and THEN paste it in. (see my post)
I don't want to do the extra step for basic scanning.
I also shouldn't have to do that just to get a correct scan in a document.

Anyone else? I need to figure out why Word is acting wonky like this!

I am relocating at the moment and my scanner is in the bowels of a container
ship somewhere on the high seas, so I cannot test this at the moment, but
check the default insertion method (tools > options > edit) and see if the
use of a floating image (not in line) corrects the issue.

Scanning directly into the document is only going to save a moment of time
if the source material is going to be available to you next time you want
that image in the document. Despite your reluctance, retaining a file copy
of the image could save time in the long run
