WORD v 2002

Message: Everytime I attempt to open Word I get the following msg.
Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.
I then get the following message:
Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting Word in safe mode will
help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start
the program.
Do you want to start in safe mode?

I have answered Yes and I then can pull up a document although all of Words
processes are not available to me, i.e, converting to PDF.

I have re-installed my Office XP Professional and I still get the same
results.

I need help on how to resolve this issue.

Thank you for your reply. I tried all you suggested and thusfar, it has not
worked.
Each time I signon in Word, I get the same response and questions to direct
me to loading in safe mode.
Do you have any other suggestions
