Word Processor

Just purchased new system with XP. It came with
Microsoft Works. Is Word a better product that would be
more compatible with most application software? Is Works
2002 the product to get and is it obatainable separate
from Office? Any suggestions?

Well, since word is made by Microsoft, it's more
compatible with a lot of programs. Works is less
expensive, but less compatible (even though you can get a
document converter [converts it from one filetype to
another so it works]) so let's say you get a word file
and you can't open it in Works, you can convert it to a
Works file and open it. But it's your money, and your
decision.

in addition to the WORKS word processor.

If you want the most compatibility, buy MS OFFICE, most high
schools and colleges and almost 100% of the business world
use OFFICE programs for accounting, data collection and word
processing.

MS Works is a suite of programmes. It includes a word processor. MS Word is
a highly sophisticated - and expensive - Word processor alone, but is
capable of a lot more than MS Works's word processor.

If I had to make a choice, I would save up and buy MS Office which provides
a full suite of highly sophisticated applications, including, of course, MS
Word.

Microsoft Works is a separate suite of programs that is available most
anywhere that sells software. It has Word, a calendar, spreadsheet, and
other functions. Some people suspect that the Word portion is not as
complete and fancy as it is with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs? It
is more than adequate for most users.
