Word open document as Read-only

I have a doc file that does NOT have the read only property checked when
looking at it through file explorer. However when opening it with word the
title bar says read only. I think this is stopping me being able to transfer
it to my PDA

Any ideas on why this is happening?

PS: No it did not come off a CD and I am not trying to burn it to anything.
Word just seems to be opening a non-read-only file and saying it is read
only.
