Word not opening, winword error

Please help! Word won't open at all. We keep getting a
message that there was a winword error. We tried to re-
install Word and download updates but nothings working. I
hate to have to uninstall it and lose everything. But do I
have an option?

To resolve this issue Close all windows
click on Start
Click on Run
Type %appdata% and press enter
Double click on Microsoft
Double click on Templetes
Here you will find a file Normal.dot or Normal
Right click on the file and select Rename and type oldNormal.old
Press enter
Close all windows
