Winword caused error in GDI.EXE

Crazy thing this morning: When I opened seemingly innocent Word documents, I
received this error message: "Winword has caused an error in GDI.EXE.
Winword will now close." And it did.

Poked around on Google and saw a few hits that mentioned a connection
between this error message and Internet Explorer. (Didn't make sense to me,
either.) So I did a repair of IE via Add/Remove programs (knew a repair
wouldn't hurt anything) and the problem went away. Any thoughts on how the
two are/were connected? Just curious. Mike Maltby in the house? Thanks, Joe

Hi, Beth. Thanks for the reply. Still not sure how the problem sorta "fixed
itself" but I'm not complaining. I'll check out your noted sites, too.

Hi Joe,

GDI.EXE usually indicates a problem with the display driver or printer
driver and either one can cause errors in Word.

Hi Joe,

Keep in mind IE is closely tied to Windows. Detect and Repair may have
found an issue with your video driver or printer driver and corrected
it.

Word is fairly tasking on your video driver and many times issues are
not apparent until you use Word. Also, when you start Word it queries
the printer driver in order to obtain a valid font list, printable
area, etc.
