WORD Installation

I had a system problem (cooling fan replacement) and
because of the new part my system came back at
manufacturer standards. I wanted to put WORD 2000 back
on my system. I have the disks from a previous
computer. I have the original disk and the certificate
of auth with the id number.

When I load it in, it asks for a 25 digit product key,
but the product ID on my CA only has 20 digits.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

It's very frustrating. I've loaded it before, but for
the life of me, I can't remember how to load it again.

That Certificate of Authenticity applies to the operating system, not the
office software.

If the disks came with the previous computer, the End User Licence Agreement
for the software most probably restricted its use to the computer with which
it was sold and it would not be legal to install and use it on any other
computer.

See the KnowledgeBase article “How to Obtain a New Product Key for Office
2000 Program Setup” at:

As a former CompUSA salesman, I can say that this issue often arose.
Microsoft doesn't have a problem with users installing Word or Excel
on new computers, provided that said software was first erased from
older computers. One generally cannot install Word on two or more
computers unless they have a network license such as a five-pack.

I have Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003. All require the
ubiquitous 25-character product key. I'm not sure what Bella is
working with. It seems a case where she's mixing OS software with
Word product packaging.
