Word document doesn't continue to next page

When typing in a regular word document (Word 2002), once I get to the bottom
of the page, it will not continue on to the next page. The only way to fix
this is to go into columns and select one column.

Since your description of the problem doesn't really paint much of a picture
I'm guessing that you are attempting to use multiple column layout and
expecting the content to flow from the first column on one page directly to
the first column on the next. If that's the case, it ain't gonna happen.

Columns in Word - and most everywhere else - refer to *newspaper type*
columns which wrap from the bottom of one column to the top of the next on
the same page. Once that page is "full" the text flows on to the next page.

The type of layout you're trying to have - again, I'm assuming - is to have
content on the left side of the page with corresponding content adjacent to
it on the right. The more appropriate ways to do this are 1) a Table, 2) the
use of Tabs or 3) with a "hanging indent".

If my guess is correct & you need any assistance with either of these
options post back with details about the type of doc you're trying to
construct - each may have advantages/disadvantages depending on the intended
design. Likewise, if my guess is wrong much more detailed description of the
situation will be needed in order to offer any meaningful suggestions.

Not necessarily. There is a bug in some versions of Word that sometimes
convinces it that there are multiple columns and the first is margin width,
forcing the rest of the text into a zero-width column, which of course
disappears. As the OP says, the only solution for this is to go to Format |
Columns and click on the One preset picture. What I think the OP hasn't
realized is that, if this is affecting all new documents, it's going to be
necessary to make this change in Normal.dot as well.

If you're having this problem in all new documents, you'll need to open
Normal.dot and apply the fix. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm for tips on finding
and editing Normal.dot.
