Navigate down columns of text.

I am more familiar with WordPerfect so go easy with my ignorance.

I have a two column document. I need to navigate down through the document
(for purposes of text selection). I would like to go down column 1 and at the
bottom of the page continue down column 2. Instead, the selection continues
to the next page.

Is there someway I can do what I describe without having to go character by
charater?

I have had lost of problems like that when it comes to selecting text. I
have found that the easest way to fix this problem is to select the first
column and then hold the ctrl key down and then click and drag through the
rest of the text that you need to select. With this method u can select as
much non adjecent text as u need to as long as u keep the ctrl key held down.

If you're using snaking columns, Word should select text in the way you
describe. Are you sure you aren't dealing with a table?

Suzanne; Thanks for taking your time to answer.

I am sure that I am dealing with columns not a table.

If I use the right arrow key, it will move character by character down
through the text and at the bottom and last character of the first column go
immediately to the first character of the second column. If I continue to the
last character of the second column it will move to the first character of
column one on the next page. This is the way I would expect it to work.

However, if I use the down arrow key, it will move line by line down through
the text and at the bottom and last line of the first column go immediately
to the first line of column one on the next page. At this time, it will have
selected all of column two. This is not the way I would expect it to work.

My work around (but not desirable) is to do this, then use the left arrow to
back up to the place I want to end my selection.

Windows XP Home
Word (student and home) 2007.

Thanks for any help including if needed to tell me I am using the wrong keys!

Okay, I didn't realize you were using the arrow keys; I thought you were
referring to selecting with the mouse. I would suggest that when you are in
the last line on the page, you use End, then Right Arrow to get to the
second column.
