Non "newsletter" style Columns

Are the only columns available in Word (2002 or 2003) "newsletter style
columns" or can you disable the "flow to the next column" behavior?

When I used to use WordPerfect, there were 4 types of columns:

· Newspaper: flows text down a column to the bottom of a page or column
break, then continues it at the top of the next column to the right
· Balanced Newspaper: adjusts newspaper columns so that columns are of
equal length
· Parallel: groups columns across the page in rows or starts subsequent
rows below the longest column of the previous row. Parallel columns are
useful for scripts, charts, or lists.
· Parallel With Block Protect: keeps all rows of the columns together
across page breaks

I suppose one could create a style to emulate some of those
characteristics, but the simple solution is to use tables instead of
columns at all. Just wondering.

Word does newspaper columns with the Columns feature. To make balanced
newspaper columns, insert a section break (continuous or next page) at the
end of the section.

To do parallel columns of any kind in Word, use tables.
