I am doing a 12,000 word paper. One of the requirements is that I have the
word count for each page in the header of each page. Is there a way that I
can have Microsoft Word automatically insert the word count of each page in
the header of each page? Thank you so much for any help, it would save me
hours of work.

Yes you can.
1) Assuming you're in Page Layout view, double click your header area to get
into the header.
2) Put your cursor where you want to insert the word count.
3) Type Ctrl+F9. This inserts field code brackets.
4) Inside the brackets, type "numwords" (no quotes).
5) Then press F9 to update the field.

This will give you a word count for the entire document, not for the
specific page, however.

Do you know of a way to get a word count for the specific page in the header
instead of the entire document then? Thank you

If I had known a way, I would have posted it. I don't know that there *is* a
way; it's possible that some handy-dandy VBA could accomplish it, but it
would probably have very unfortunate effects on performance, since Word
would have to be constantly recalculating the number of words on the page as
editing caused text to shift.
