Word Bold

When entering certain documents and trying to apply the bold tool on words it
dosent work although on other documents the bold tool works as it should i
have reinstalled office and also repaired it without any joy!

Please advise.
 
Does the font in question have a bold variant installed? Are there
formatting restrictions in the document (Word 2003 only)?
