Word 98-Word 2000 error

C

Chuck

Transfered Word 98 files to new computer using Win XP and
Word 2000. When I go into Word 2000 and My Documents to
open I get wrong type size, displaced margins and random
formatting info at the bottom of the document (Normal,
Heading 1, Heading 2, Default Paragraph Font, Root Entry,
etc, etc). When I edit to correct and hit Save, I'm asked
if I want to save in a Word format. I say "Yes", close,
reopen the file and the errors are still there.
However, if I reach the same file by going directly to My
Documents on the desktop, the file appears correctly, just
as it was on the old Win 98.
Help?

Suzanne...Perfect solution. Many thanks.

Your mistake is in saving as a Word document the file you've opened as text
(using the Recover Text from Any File setting in File Open). See
