Word 95 on XP?

B

bobblespin

Years ago I bought Word 95, but now am buying a computer which will
have XP. Do I have to buy a new version of Word or can I install my
old version on XP?

Thanks for your advice.

Is that a yes or a no to the OP's question?

What a load of BALLS. Are you on commission from MS, Carey?
Most of your answers seem to involve buying new software. If the OP
doesn't need all the bells and whistles of Office 2003 then he doesn't
need to buy it! In fact a VERY LARGE number of users don't use more than
25% of Office functionality!

At worst, you may have to run it in the compatibility mode. See this link for
more info:

At best, get a later version. You can find a more recent version included in the
Microsoft Works suites at reasonable prices.

Thank you so much for your replies - this link is very helpful and
hopefully I'll save $150 (the cheapest price around here for Works).

Being as Carey gave you incorrect information under the guise of an MVP,
maybe he or she will send you the 150 bucks.

It will work but it is not supported by MS.
The only real drawback is that the scroll
wheel doesn't work with Word 95 because
it uses a non standard scroll control.

Word for Windows 95 will most probably work on WinXP, but I do seem to
recall a few minor problems reported back when WinXP was initially
released. If I remember correctly, it the problems had something to do
with the appearance of bullets.

You do not need a new version, if you are happy with the version you have.
Word 95 will work under Windows XP.

Word 95 should work fine. If you want a newer word processor, check
www.openoffice.org, for a free, open-source office suite.

I second that...OpenOffice is as close to a free Microsoft Office you can
get and should be on everyone's computer.

To answer your question specifically, others have said that
Word 95 will work with XP.

I acquired a copy of Office Pro 97 a couple of years ago.
Last I saw, on eBay, you can have it dirt cheap (like less
than $50. You can also find 97 on Amazon.com)

I just found a copy of 97 on eBay for $20.

I personally don't like Office 2002 (too much stuff for
simple word processing), and it takes too long to load. When
I want a word processor (I'm a writer), I want to click the
icon and be writing/typing in 5 seconds or so. When I click
on the 2002 icon, I count to 30 and THEN hopefully, I can
close all the "hint widows" and begin typing.

Can't respond to the Office 2003 point; have never used it.
Like my son says about his copy of Office 2003 Enterprise

"it does what I want to do."

I've peeked at Office 2003. It was still too big and too
slow. (for ME)

Good luck!

Well put! Which is PRECISELY why I -- as a professional
writer-- find Office Pro 97 QUITE sufficient.

I simply don't need all the bells and whistles.

Good luck!

Wow...nice job of not answering his question at all.

Is it just me,

or do others find some with "MVP" after their name to be
snippy, snooty, snotty, and less than "helpful, friendly,
courteous, and kind?"

BTW, what the HECK does

"MVP" mean?

"Most Valuable Player"?

Good luck!

AGAIN, bobble,

check on eBay before you buy.

I am a professional writer. I have been using Office Pro 97
for YEARS, and I LOVE it. IT does MORE than I need.

And last I looked ( a couple of minutes ago), you can get
Office Pro 97 on Ebay for $20.

That's a BUTT-kicking app, and DIRT cheap.

Works is MUCH more stripped down. But if you want, you can
certainly get both. I personally have

Office Pro 97, Office Pro 97 Small Business Ed, Office Pro
2003, Office Pro 2003 Enterprise, and Works 2002.

I load Office Pro 97 and I load Works 2002, minus the
included Word.

I am betting you could get Office Pro 97 and Works 2002 for
under $50 for BOTH if you go to Ebay.

Also be sure to look for the "Buy It Now" option. Meaning,
you can plunk down the stated price, say "Buy It Now" $25,
and you don't have to bid.

Pay the "list price" and it's YOURS!

And you are GUARANTEED that it's "the real thing."

Good luck!

In one or two instances - Most Voluble Prat.

rotflmao!!

I LOVE how Paul Harvey put it:

"Oh, I'd LOVE to buy that guy for what he's worth, and then
sell him for what he THINKS he's worth."

To which I ( also a writer), added,

"... and then I could retire a wealthy man."

I have personally come to the conclusion that several of our
Most Valuable Players (wink) ARE here to sell software.

And I had been thinking until this thread that it was me!

;-)

Good luck!
