Word 95 on XP?

B

Bindar Dundat

It will probably run (at least in compatibility mode) But I agree with Carey
that it's about time for an upgrade. Sooner or later all software runs it's
course. I know someone who just switched over from Word Perfect 5 to Office
2003. Now there is a change that was a looooong time overdue.

It's difficult to use 100% of Office programs if the only
program you have is an old, obsolete version of Word.
Perhaps the OP would expand his educational horizons
when he discovers Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. and
their extreme usefulness in today's world.

Sure. If you believe that, there's this bridge in Brooklyn I would like
to sell you.
Good luck!

If you buy software at eBay, you'll need it!

Ahh...Office 97...those were the good old days...:)

:)

When I discovered the program / suite in 98, I was DAZZLED.

Today, even though it's 10 years old, I remain dazzled.

It continues to have features that I continue to be amazed
with. One TINY comment I'll make is that I juggle perhaps a
dozen different writing projects at a time. I have some 6
novels/books going, as well as articles, short stories,
poetry...

I am a thoroughly trained writer, and I am quite capable of
a WIDE variety of writing.

What impresses me with Word 97 is one very small, CRITICAL
feature. I can program as many different "dictionaries" as I
need. Words and phrasing that are appropriate for article
Z, don't work at ALL for short story J. And it's a HUGE drag
to have to "kill" "corrections" left and right merely
because I'm stuck in one dictionary.

If I can switch dictionaries a dozen times a day (presuming
I remember to do so), it's BEAUTIFUL in its simplicity.

What I HATE about 2002/2003 is how damn LONG it takes to
load.

I want to write, not watch my cpu crank and strain to load
this HUGE app with 10,000 features (literally) that I'll
never use.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Good luck!

Not to argue or be difficult, but I am a trained,
professional author, and I simply don't need all the
functionality of 2003.

Let me HASTEN to say, I speak for ONE PERSON.

I was given my severed head (joking) earlier by someone who
said, "You told somebody that SP 2 isn't necessary!"

I most certainly did not. I said we must each make choices.
SP 2 and Office 2003 don't work for ME.

And I also presented my reasons WHY, BRIEFLY.

You can't make an intelligent decision until you hear ALL
sides.

Not just those that are politically correct.

When the day comes that I need Office 2003, I have the
learning disks, and I'll program into my project deadlines
the time it'll take to "come up to speed."

I took classes a couple of years ago in Power point and
Excel, and don't remember a thing I learned.

I NEVER USED EITHER PROGRAM.

Kindly don't make this "exchange of information" group a
group in which only certain, sanitized POVs are welcome.

If you think someone is DEAD wrong about not liking Office
2003, or Works 2002, be prepared to justify your POV beyond,
"because a MVP said so."

At the moment, frankly, as nice as you've been-- to me-- you
are coming across as a software salesman.

Good luck!

You're sounding like a Microsoft Certified Software salesman
again.

Just because the Formula One Ford will break 120 in 6

Absolutely. Did I mention-- did you read my explanation--
that it is registered, and that it is also VALIDATED?

Last I heard, if you download the VALIDATION, and run it,
and then Microsoft allows you to download ALL the updates
and add-ons (back when I was actually downloading ALL the
updates)

NO PROBLEM!

Have you BOTHERED to go to Ebay's site and read their
disclaimer on software?

They have an agreement with Microsoft and with law
enforcement. Anyone who is caught selling bootleg Microsoft
software is prosecuted, and-- whatever the legal term is--
the companies / individuals that are permitted to sell
software, must PURCHASE INSURANCE that GUARANTEES against
loss any customer who inadvertently purchases bootleg
software.

You are GUARANTEED that if you buy SW from Ebay, it's the
real deal.

I have now purchased some dozen different programs,
including 3 Microsoft products... All ... ALL came in shrink
wrap, all with keys, ALL validated.
Sure. If you believe that, there's this bridge in Brooklyn I would like
to sell you.

That is about the most ignorant thing I've read in here yet.

I am BETTING you didn't BOTHER to actually CHECK the Ebay
site!

Did you?

If you buy software at eBay, you'll need it!

Thanks!

Actually, the copy of XP Pro I have now, I purchased on
Ebay, for less then $60, and it's a good, validated copy.

I suspect that you work for a competitor, and you HATE it
when people save money!

Out of YOUR pocket into mine!

:)

Live with it!

Good luck!

Well I am sitting nicely with XP Pro. SP2 and 98SE in a dual-boot and
guess what I actually prefer 98SE. Sure you cannot do everything that
XP Pro. can do but it is an easy operating system and it sure is sweet.
I just wanted to put things in perspective and I hope you two can work
your differences out.

How are you going to stop me? It may be real, it may not be. Most
likely, it will be a pirated copy as eBay does nothing to vet sellers.

Key word: "caught". Most of the pirates that sell there don't get caught.

Sure, pull the other one, it has bells on it.

Only Windows gets "validated". Methinks you don't know your activation

I bet you are absolutely right! I doubt this idiot is even bi-polar. His
writing skills are very elementary and certainly not an example of anyone
with any ability to ever be considered a writer.
Hey Tallahassee, point us to some of your published works if you even have
any.
