Have you BOTHERED to go to Ebay's site and read their
disclaimer on software?

They have an agreement with Microsoft and with law
enforcement. Anyone who is caught selling bootleg Microsoft
software is prosecuted, and-- whatever the legal term is--
the companies / individuals that are permitted to sell
software, must PURCHASE INSURANCE that GUARANTEES against
loss any customer who inadvertently purchases bootleg
software.

You are GUARANTEED that if you buy SW from Ebay, it's the
real deal.

Have you bothered to read links like these I've posted here in response to
this before?

ROFLMAO!! Tell that to some folks I know that got royally burned.

I'd quote that line from Tommy Boy about sticking your head up a bulls ass,
but I'm sure I'd ruin it. Needless to say, a guarantee is nothing more than
a false sense of security.

How are you going to stop me? It may be real, it may not be. Most
likely, it will be a pirated copy as eBay does nothing to vet sellers.

Maybe just maybe, you're wrong.

My copy both registered, no problem, and VALIDATED, no
problem. And every time I go to Microsoft to update, it
gives me all my updates.

Perhaps-- this time only-- you're wrong.

And likely, you have not read Ebay's policy on selling
software. Software sellers apparently have to buy insurance
to "indemnify" (?) their sales. What I am trying to say is,
they guarantee that if their software ends up being bootleg,
they must refund all monies, pay all fines, and still be
prosecuted.

The copy of XP Pro I bought was real.

Good luck!

Registered? Do you mean "activated"?

No. I registered it the first time I used it, to be sure it
was good. I then validated it the first time I signed onto
Microsoft's site to get an update.

They withheld the update until they had validated my copy of
XP. They gave me a validation #, and then I got my updates.

I have now validated half-a-dozen times (because I've done
that many formats since the first install), and each time,
they've VALIDATED my copy.
Do you think you're telling me something I don't already know?

Evidently you either have a very short attention span, or
now YOU are misusing the word "validation." I just
validated the other day, because I did another format last
week.

Each time I format, and re-install, I must VALIDATE Windows
XP Pro to get the updates AGAIN.

When I figure out how to download and store all the updates
on my computer and then burn them to a CD, I can stop
downloading them.

And you don't need to send me a link. My problem at this
point is the reading impairment I mentioned quite a while
ago. I go to the web page, and I see all those hundreds of
words, and my eyes cross. (2 lazy eyes, and dyslexia)
Of course.

What do you mean, "Of course." ?

You sound like you haven't.
Key word: "caught". Most of the pirates that sell there don't get caught.

anti- 3rd party selling Microsoft products bs.

If it weren't real, it wouldn't VALIDATE.
Sure, pull the other one, it has bells on it.

Is this "standup comedy routine going someplace?"

I do have better things to do than play your "straight man."

I DO know ONE person who considers you funny.

Nope! He just said he doesn't find you funny, either.
Only Windows gets "validated".

My mistake! I said that wrong. I meant to say, "all
genuine."

All in original packaging.

Methinks you don't know your activation
from your registration from your validation.

Methinks you think you're clever. I don't agree. I am
clever. I got a copy of Windows for something like 2/3 off.
THAT is clever!

I already own it!
Yes, you lose the bet.

I don't believe you any more than you believe me.

Now what?

You continue to pay full price because you don't ...

never mind.

I don't work for a computer company. I don't work for any company. I
have my own business which has nothing to do with computers at all. I
don't care if you save money or not.

Thanks! How friendly!

What do you sell? I'll be sure to boycott.

Good luck!

I bet you are absolutely right! I doubt this idiot is even bi-polar.

Thanks for the compliments, Mike! I don't take your crap,
so now I'm an idiot?

You need to grow up and get over yourself.

His writing skills are very elementary

cheap shot!

Why on EARTH would I go to the trouble of doing a 2nd and
3rd and final draft of stuff I post in here?

Your accusation makes absolutely NO sense, and is more
typical of someone who is PISSED because someone with an
actual brain didn't bow down and worship you.

and certainly not an example of anyone
with any ability to ever be considered a writer.

Pfffft!

Now explain to me why I have ANYTHING to prove to YOU?

Hey Tallahassee, point us to some of your published works if you even have
any.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Again, Mikey, explain why I have to prove anything to you.

Ever hear of Pepperdine U? I attended there on full
academic scholarship. Got a writing award!

What's it to you?

Is this now a pissing contest?

Good luck!

Probably the only thing I was wrong about, I apologize, you are not and
idiot. I was at a loss of words to describe you. I am not a writer.
You need to grow up and get over yourself.

I am grown up, and I only read right through you. I think you need to get
over yourself John.

You shouldn't if it was of any help to a posters problems. Posting advice
with disclaimers that "I am not a teckie" make your posts nothing more than
wasted space.
Your accusation makes absolutely NO sense,

It did to me.

DUH...You really did catch that fact! BRAVO you have great comprehension.
You really pi$$ me off, and I will do exactly what you do and speak for
others and say you pi$$ them off too!
because someone with an
actual brain didn't bow down and worship you.

You might want to rethink the rest of your statement. Not so sure about the
brain part. said:

Maybe for some real credibility?

What for John your XXX story you shopped around on the internet for $10 a
download?
What's it to you?

I wanted to know if you were blowing smoke or really were what you say you
are.
Is this now a pissing contest?

Well you were the instigator of the contest weren't you John? You are a
fraud, you may be mental, but you know exactly what you are doing. You
terrorize any newsgroup you decide to make your playground. I doubt anyone
would even be able to validate you were ever a student at Pepperdine U,
which is about 45 minutes away from me off PCH in Malibu, Ca. Should I tap
my resources and see if John Weatherly was ever enrolled with a full
scholarship and received an award for writing? Let me know which one of the
claims I have the best chance of verifying?
Good luck!

They withheld the update until they had validated my copy of

How did "they" validate your OS? In person?
I have now validated half-a-dozen times (because I've done
that many formats since the first install), and each time,
they've VALIDATED my copy.

You've had to reformat six times and you think you can give advice on
this group?
Evidently you either have a very short attention span, or
now YOU are misusing the word "validation." I just
validated the other day, because I did another format last
week.

Another one? What stupid thing did you do with your computer this time?
Each time I format, and re-install, I must VALIDATE Windows
XP Pro to get the updates AGAIN.

Technically, that's not true. Illegal copies of XP get downloads too but
you have to smarter than you are to figure out how to do it.
When I figure out how to download and store all the updates
on my computer and then burn them to a CD, I can stop
downloading them.

That'll be the day. You could also try to figure out why you keep having
to reinstall. I haven't reinstalled my XP since I got it back in 03.

point is the reading impairment I mentioned quite a while

Try staying away from you computer for a couple of years.
What do you mean, "Of course." ?

It means YES, you moron.
You sound like you haven't.

"Sound"? There are at least ten posts a month on this very newsgroup
from people who got ripped off by buying "cheap" XP on eBay. Do a search
on Google Groups if you know how.
anti- 3rd party selling Microsoft products bs.

No, the truth, honey.
If it weren't real, it wouldn't VALIDATE.

Still not sure what you mean by validate.
Is this "standup comedy routine going someplace?"
Yes.

I do have better things to do than play your "straight man."

No you don't.
I DO know ONE person who considers you funny.

Don't laugh, then.
Nope! He just said he doesn't find you funny, either.

That's life when you only know ONE person.
My mistake! I said that wrong. I meant to say, "all
genuine."

Not fakes?

How cute.
Methinks you don't know your activation

THAT is clever!

Now if you can only figure out how to use it and not screw it up.
I already own it!

LOL! Figures.
I don't believe you any more than you believe me.

Now what?

You continue to pay full price because you don't ...

never mind.

Actually, I buy OEMs, which don't sell at full price so you were saying?

I don't have mental patients as clients.

And why would you be reformatting and re-installing Windoze so often? Got a
problem with that toy operating system? Or do you just like watching
Windoze being installed?

Well folks, it does work, and beautifully at that. I installed Word on
my new computer on the weekend and didn't even need the compatibility
mode. As one poster mentioned, the scroll on the mouse doesn't work in
Word, but it doesn't matter to me.

Thanks to those who gave me wise and helpful advice.

It will probably run (at least in compatibility mode) But I agree with Carey
that it's about time for an upgrade. Sooner or later all software runs it's
