Word 2007 program opens as it normally would, but will not open documents. On
exiting Word, computer recognizes there is a problem but apparently cannot
fix it. When I open the Microsoft Works icon in my program drop down, there
is no Word program displayed. If re-loading Word is required, please point me
to the online help that will walk me through it using my Microsoft Enterprise
2007 CD.

One further clarification. I was out on the net when my computer started to
shut down open files. I paniced and immediatley shut computer off. (When
Microsoft is about to update files, it would be nice to receive an alert or
permission to do so.) Mine is a stand alone home computer, no network
involved.

Thanks for your help. (drop down for selecting a discussion group did not
display Word.)

If you insist on using the strange web interface to the newsgroups, it will
show you 8 Word groups if you select Word from
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?d=1

http://word.mvps.org/FindHelp/WhichNewgrp.htm gives you hints as to which
groups to use (and tells you that you'd be better using a newsreader rather
than the web interface).

I wouldn't expect to find Word under a Works icon, as Word is not part of
Works; it is part of Microsoft Office.
Perhaps the reason why you didn't find the Word newsgroup at
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/default.mspx is that it is
hidden through the "Office" link.

Switching the computer off when it part way through an update is not a good
idea.

It is, however, part of Works Suite. Word 2002 is included in Works Suite,
the most recent version of which, I believe, is Works Suite 2006. Works 9,
which doesn't include Word, is the current version of Works.
