I have Vista home premium and Word 2007 Home and Student. I am not able to
launch Word. Erverthing was working and just stopped. (No new programs have
been added.) I tried the Office diagnostics - no problem. I tried
uninstalling and then reinstalling the Word program. I have tried to start
it in its safe mode. Nothing works. The detect and repair program always
says that another program is being installed. I can't figure out what other
program could be installing. Plese help. I have an important paper I need
to finish.

Reboot (which will kill off any other installer that's hiding in the woodwork)
and then try detect & repair again.

If that doesn't help, go through the steps in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541.

I tried rebooting, running detect and repair - nothing worked. I finally did
a system restore. There had been an automatic Windows update the day before.
I restored to the day right before the update - it worked. So whatever the
update was - it did something to my Word program. So I guess I am OK until
another Windows update. At least I got my paper done.
