Word 2003 style

D

ddt

I created several documents and formatted everything with styles and deleted
all styles I was not using. Then I created a new document as a master. I
created styles to match what I had in the individual documents and deleted
all those I was not using. Then I inserted the documents into the master.
Word created 9 copies of most of the styles. For example I had a Style Body.
Word created Style Body 1, Style Body 2, etc. It set all paragraphs from
Style Body to Style Body2.
Why? How can I stop this?
