Word 2003 spell check add word and ignore grayed out

My spell check has stopped working properly. It will not allow me to ignore
or select suggested spellings. Both "ignore all" and "add to dictionary" are
grayed out.

I tried choosing English US as my language and telling it to check words
while typing, but the problem persists.

Please help.

Hi Stefan,

Actually, I already looked at the Barnhill article and followed all the
suggestions I could, though not the Vista-related ones, since I have XP.

For some reason, the problem seems to have resolved itself, but I have no
idea why, as none of the Barnhill suggestions seemed to make any difference.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Vista-related" suggestions? I don't recall a
reference to Windows Vista in the article.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it sorted.
