Word 2003 not replacing text

Hi,

I'm working in Word 2003, and usually when I select words or a line of text
(either by double clicking, or highliting with the cursor) I am able to
replace the text by typing something on the keyboard. However, for some
reason, when I select a word or lines of text, if I start typing (with the
text still selected) the text appears in front of the selected text. This is
not a problem caused by the "insert" key or overtyping. Any ideas how to fix
this?

Thanks,
Kyle
