Word 2002,97 do not chech footnote spelling?

Just verifying. I see that Word 2002 and my older Word 97 do not check
spelling in footnotes and endnotes. I've not found anything in
Tools/options or anything anywhere else that turns in on. Is this
correct?

Are you sure? What Word does is goes through *all* the main text from pps
1-20, then goes back and checks the footnotes from pps 1-20.

See if Word checks the notes if you start SpellCheck with the cursor in the
notes. If not, you may need to add a language setting to the footnote text
and endnote text styles.
