Word 2000 just won't open

All of a sudden, I can't get Word 2000 to open. I am running Windows XP, with
AVG Anti-Virus, Sygate Personal Firewall, Spybot, Ad-Aware, etc.

Excel, PP, and Access all open with no problem. I just recently downloaded
the new patches from Microsoft that came out 6/14, and I think thats when the
problems started. I can't say for sure because I haven't used Word in a week
or two before I downloaded the patch (and of course didn't do a System
Restore).

Word will start to open, but stops at the Splash Screen, with a white
background. I can close it by right-clicking on the button on the Taskbar.

I've deleted the Normal.dot, but still have the same problem. any
suggestions on what the cause could be?
