Word 2000 won't open

I have never had any problems with my Microsoft Word 2000 program. However,
in the past few days, when I click on my shortcut on desktop for word or from
the start menu, Microsoft word will open to the initial screen, but then
freeze. I have also tried to open several word documents both from my desktop
and from a disk and neither of those open past the initial screen either. I
have uninstalled and reinstalled the program a few times, but that hasn't
seemed to help. Are there any suggestions???
