How do I open Word 2003 without help opening?

Each time I open Word 2003 the help screen opens. The only help I have found
using F1 tells me to make a desktop shortcut or add switches. I have Word
2003 at home, and do not have this challenge.
How do I stop help from opening with word without a desktop shortcut or
adding/removing/changing switches?

I suppose it is the task pane you refer to - with the text â€Getting Startedâ€
in the top.
In that case, select Tools > Options > View tab. In the “Show†group, turn
off â€Startup Task Paneâ€.
