word 2000 freezes on loading

When loading word 2000 the Microsoft logo appears on the screen and the
loading stops. If I look into Task Manager 50% of the CPU is being used by
word. I must stop word completely. I read the Microsoft Help and the /a
switch works. I tried the fixes suggests but the problem persists. Normal.dot
removed. word\startup and office\startup removed. The register
HKEY_CURRENT_USER ...\word\data erased.
Any additional help will be appreciated.
