try turning the DVD burn speed to a lower setting. if this works and find
later that it stops or you have to turn it down further, get ready to buy a
new one.

What software are you using? Is it an internal or external drive?

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Any chance you have two optical drives in your system? If so pop in a
Knoppix disc. Then see if K3B will burn the disc for you. If it does
your original problem is software. If it doesn't good bet the drive
itself is at fault.

And the drive IS a DVD +- drive, not a DVD+R, right?
