Backup dvd-r just will not restore backup images.

Hi! I really appreciate some kind help because I have diligently
committed some backups of my desktop home system (home use actually).I
have tried Norton Ghost 14, Paragon Hard disk Manager 2008, Drive
Clone 2008, Acronis True Image 2008 and R-Drive Image. Everyone one of
them does manage to create backup copies onto dvd-rs and has verify
them successful also.

But when my pc crashes I thought I can just easily restored them from
my dvd-rs images but the backup dvd;s will only run the first headers
something like "starting xxxx.................., please
wait............................................
Actually nothing happens even after waited for 2-3hours. No new
messages either error or completed restore messages.
I still cannot restore my pc and finally gave-in and had to do a clean
build of apps & system one by one.

What could be the problem? Is it my pc or backup apps problem or dvd-
r?

Thank-you in advance.

On my system my backup program requires me to make a boot rescue disk that
is a CD-R or floppy using the backup program but my actual backup disks are
DVD-R. I think my boot rescue disk loads a DVD driver or other drivers that
makes the system able to read the subsequent DVD's correctly.

I seem to remember that Acronis works the same way. The first time you
install it or from one of the menu's later on you can create the rescue
disk.

Correct. The backup image requires the backup program. Of course, if your
hard drive crashes, you don't have the backup program. The workaround for
Acronis is that the program will allow you to create a rescue disk. It is a
linux based version of the same exact program, on bootable CD. -Dave

sorry for the omission. mine is runing on win.xp.sp3.
well, I did manage to create a rescue dvd (backup/bootable dvdr) and
has first inserted
the bootable/rescue disc(dvdr) then followed by the backup image.dvdr
-disc 1 of disc3
But the disc1 loaded and then "starting.............please
wait....................and seems to hang
forever. I do not understand despite having created the bootable media
and has verrified all the media.
The restoration just will not worked.
What could be the problem?

thanks
