Won't turn off

All of a sudden this week my laptop won't hibernate or go
into standby mode -- I have Windows XP.
 
This being a recent issue, you might try using System Restore to take you
back to a time prior to when this began. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

If the above doesn't resolve the issue, this is almost always a driver
issue. Be sure the drivers for your graphics card and soundcard (They are
the usual culprits with this issue) are up to date. If they are, try
removing and reinstall the drivers as the current drivers installed might be
corrupt.
