Have lost hibernate and standby options

Helen

Hi there,
I have a laptop that came with Vista and 1M RAM so I ditched Vista and used
XP - no problems.

I then purchased 4M RAM and reinstalled Vista - gradually ground to a halt
so I stripped the HDD completely of all partitions etc that Toshiba had and
started with a clean install of XP

I now dont have a Hibernate or standby Option

I contacted Toshiba who suggested I update BIOS which I have done.

When I go to CMD and do a query on powercfg it says that hibernate and
standby are not supported.

Field Description Value
----------------- -----
Name Portable/Laptop
Numerical ID 1
Turn off monitor (AC) After 15 mins
Turn off monitor (DC) After 5 mins
Turn off hard disks (AC) After 30 mins
Turn off hard disks (DC) After 5 mins
System standby (AC) Not Supported
System standby (DC) Not Supported
System hibernates (AC) Not Supported
System hibernates (DC) Not Supported
Processor Throttle (AC) ADAPTIVE
Processor Throttle (DC) ADAPTIVE

I used to have both in both the Vista and the older XP setup but they have
now disappeared.

I am now stumped as to what to do.

Your assistance would be appreciated

You have to have a video driver installed in order to support hibernate and
standby. Go to the Toshiba website and download all the XP drivers for your
model laptop. Make sure you install the chipset drivers first and then follow
with the video drivers. Reboot the machine and see if hibernate and standby
are now available.

I noticed I havent got Chipset drivers installed for monitors - thanks heaps
I have all the drivers but may have got the wrong order and missed one - that
would solve my problem thanks.

I have installed the chipset drivers but alas when I go to the Toshiba
website I cannot find anything that is obviously a video driver - I presume
it is in the Toshiba apps somewhere and will have to go thru them one by one.

Thanks so much for your help - I am off for a weekend away now and cant do
anymore until after Monday- I really appreciate your assistance
