Won't play a DVD

DVD Help

I have XP Sp1 installed with Media player 9 and
Intervideo XPack DVD decoder for media player on a sony
viao r505EL.

I could previously play a DVD movie but now media player
will play music CD's and I can read and record data CD's
but XP and media player will not recognize a DVD.

I have all the DVD the appropriate checks ticked in media
player options. I think upgrading XP and and media player
has caused something to go wrong with the DVD playback.

Please Help.

I also have a sony that gets quirky from time to time.

My fix was to reinstall the DVD software that came with the unit from the
application recovery cd.

This worked for me.
