I have a Win2k computer that is a server for 2 laptops and also a host for
ICS. Today, it refused to load the desktop. Yesterday it worked great. It
gets past the login screen, says loading personal settings and hourglasses
into eternity. I tried logging in on 3 different profiles. It WILL go into
safe mode. It has a recent history of gremlins.....viruses. I have the
latest defs and complete scan done. It appears to be clean. I am about ready
to do the format and start afresh. Any easy solutions I could be missing?

Thank You for your support

Any machine infected by viruses must be considered
compromised. Virus "cleaning" programs can do only
so and so much. If it was my machine then I would
do a clean installation. I would also install a good virus
scanner, keep it up-to-date, and install a firewall. My
preference is Trend Internet Security.

I would first go through fixboot, fixmbr and chkdsk from your w2k disk. My
mantra.
Afterward, I would also run SpyBot and Adaware. I must sound like a broken
record after awhile.

Will the firewall inhibit the operation of the 3 computer network and
Internet Connection Sharing? This is a dial-up machine.
