Profiles don't load until 2nd or 3rd try

Hi all,

on a win 2k box with sp4, I am having an issue with user's profiles.

I will get to the login, put in their blank password, and press ok. I get
nothing else except an hourglass. There is activity on the drive for about
30-40 seconds, then nothing. I am able to press CTRL+ALT+DEL, do a logout,
then login usually on the 2nd try it works but sometimes it takes 3 or 4
times before the profile is loaded.

I have reset the default user profile in the registry to another user
I have created a new user
I have reinstalled sp4
I have downloaded the latest av files and scanned
I have performed all the latest os patches

all to no avail. Any other suggestions?

remove sp4 and install sp3

Thank you for the reply, and I think that is probably on
the right track, so I tried this. However, when my
customer did the sp install, she didn't save the files.
I try to do an upgrade with the 2k cd and get 'cannot
continue, install did not finish' (or to that effect). I
have uninstalled office, printer install,
quicken....those that I think were most suspect, all with
the same outcome. Any other suggestions to 'force' this
install? Truly appreciate the suggestions! Thanks a
bunch.
