Won't allow me to backup data to CDRW

When I try to back up a data file in my company's software
(Windows XP of course) to the CDRW it tells me that I have
to have administrative rights in order to access that
drive. However, there is only one user on the computer and
I am logged in as that user and it says I have
administrative rights. When I try to back up the same
data in my company's software to a Key/JumpDrive I am able
to do that successfully. Could this just be a software
issue with this one particular piece of software rather
than an XP or CD drive issue?

Thanks so much.

JJ

If you're using NTbackup you have to save it to a folder
and then burn it. NTbackup does not consider a CD-R a back
up device.

Hi JJ,

Are you using the native ntbackup program? It doesn't work with CDRW's
unless you have them mapped as a drive. See:

Windows Backup Does Not Back Up to CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD-R Devices [Q315255]

The inbuilt software does not do what you probably think of as CD-RW
burning, and is not usable as output medium from a program. Read
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm and you will need one of the third
party packages if you want to do this. And the Backup program provided
will not output to a CD anyway - the only removable medium it deals in
is tape (or floppies. . . )

Have you checked [Enable CD recording on this drive] is ticked?! Go to the
[Recording] tab in your CDRW drive [Properties] ( [Start] > [My Computer] >
Rt. click the CDRW drive).

Hey, it seems I'm going tangent with everybody all the time!! But really I
don't mean to.
