Wndows XP and CD-RW Discs

After installing SP2 on my machine I find that my CD writer will not
recognize RW discs.

Is this a problem with SP2 or is it my machine ? Whichever it is can
someone suggest some help.

Running XP Pro with SP2
HP Pavilion 7920

BTW I have tried the Microsoft fix kB883523

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bill, are you using any software like Roxio or Nero? If you want to use
cdrw media as you would a floppy disk you will need
Direct CD or InCD and you may need this to read them.
