CDR/RW Burner Not Working

BillH

I am running XP SP2 with all the updates on a HP Pavilion, with a HP
Badged CD Writer and Nero.

My CD Writer has stopped recognizing CDRW's, it reads and writes to
CDR's ok.

I believe that this happened when I updated to SP2.

I have downloaded and installed a fix KB88656 but this has not had any
effect.

I have checked that my APSI is working OK, and am now stumped.

I just hope that someone out there may have an answer.

Just a swag...........check the HP site for updated firmware. I am having
problems with an HP640i Lightscribe dual layer and believe the problem to be
related to firmware. HP tech said new firmware was due to come out in
about a week, for my model.
Heirloom, old and part of it works

Thanks for that Heirloom, unfortunately it's not the answer.

Thanks again

Hi Bill,

Open this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD
Burning\Drives
There will be an entry below it that looks somehting like this:
Volume{5b666403-4b0e-11d7-8e1f-806d6172696f}
There is a value DriveType. Set it to 2 for CD-RW drives, 1 for CD-R
drives. 3 is for CD-ROM drives.

Thanks Joshua, the values are already set to (2). It is still not
working correctly.
