DVD-RW not working

Help-does anyone know how to fix this Windows error?
Before I insert a blank dvd into my DVD-RW drive, the PC recognizes it as a
DVD-RW drive. After inserting the dvd, the PC now sees it as a CD drive only!
When using WDO Explorer to view the drive while there is a blank DVD
inserted, the details say the disc capacity is 0 bytes with 0 bytes free
space, also the drive says "CD-Drive." However, once ejected, the drive goes
back to being a DVD-RW drive! From what I seen on other sites, this occured
back in June, 2006, looks just like the problem SP2 was going to correct (see
article 818733) What ever SP2 did was undone in June!!! I have three pc's in
the house that can not burn DVD's!!!

I have the same problem and the link you provided (and thanks for that, but)
didn't provide any clues. More info about the issue.....
I can play a DVD in my
LITEON 160PS DVDRW, but when I put a blank DVD-R or DVD+R on the drive, the
windows explorer list changes to CD Drive. I cannot burn anything with any
software. I have installed the most recent firmware, I have XP Pro SP2.
The Windows driver being used, strangely, is from 2001, and it looks like it
is cdrom.sys. I cannot find anything more current.
