wmv files

Hi. I have a problem others have had: getting wmv files to work in ppt2000. I
have Win2000 Pro, and have done all the updates. I've uninstalled and
reinstalled MediaPlayer and Quicktime (knowing that they have nothing to do
with the problem, but what the heck!). I've checked the Registry and compared
it with what is found at
www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm to no avail. I still
face the same problem: mplay32.exe won't play a movie that works fine in
MediaPlayer, and on other systems with the same versions of Windows and
PPT2000.

Help!

Chris,

If mplay32 will not play the video clip, then powerpoint 2000 will not play
the clip either.
(knowing that they have nothing to do with the problem, but what the heck!)

You'd be really suprised how a working powerpoint system can stop working
just by installing
- quicktime
- realplayer

And installing windows media player can make a powerpoint system start
working again.

Your best bet is to get the video clip converted to either another format
altogether....e.g. mpeg1
or re-render the video as a WMV but using a different Codec.

Thanks for the tip, TAJ.

As it turns out, I found out that updating Direct X solved the problem...
mplay32 now plays my wmv file without a problem. (The thread that led me to
attempt this was from early last July, in this forum).

Thanks!
Chris
