WMM crashes when my project reaches about 5 or 6 minutes

WMM is crashing whenever i try to add a clip to a project I am allready
working on.
I am making a smaller movie from a big AVI by cutting the best parts. So far
it was going well, I cut about 20 small clips into my project.
But now it doesn't accept any new clips anymore. Whenever i try to add more
WMM just crashes, not freeze, it just closes, without error message. I have
tried different clips, all with the same result. Maybe my project is too big
or complicated?
I am on XP and I have WMM 2, I don't have IE7 on my PC. Anyone?

Thanks for thinking with.
As I said, I am using an AVI-file.
I also tried a WMV-file, but the same occurs: I can add up to 21 clips to
Movie Maker, but while adding nr. 22 Movie Maker shuts down immediately.

I read the info on your website, but I'm dealing with none of those indicated
problems (sorry for my English, I am from the Netherlands).

What sort of avi is it?
dv-avi is the only one which works properly in MM.

How long are your clips?
What are your pc specs?
How much hard drive space do you have left and the overall size of the
drive?
