WMI files moved or missing?

I tried to access the "Advanced" tab on my network conection and got told
that "Windows cannot access the properties of this connection. The WMI
information might be corrupted", so I went to system information and got the
message that "WMI software cannot be accessed, the WHI files may be moved or
missing".

Can anyone tell me how I can correct this issue?

Please help, even if you just say "You need to re-instal windows XP" then at
least I know.

Excellent thanks, I tried a rebuild to no avail but the diag tool tells me
the names of 63 files which are missing.

Do you think I will be able to just copy them from a wroking XP bassed
machine and then run a rebuild? Or would using the XP CD to run a "Repair
windows intilation" be a better plan (bearing in mind the CD is SP1 and the
PC has been updated to SP2)

Thanks again

I'd slipstream your XP CD to include SP2 and do a Repair install.

Besides the time involved you'll need to get the 62 Post SP2 items
from Microsoft Update. There is an automated tool for slipstreaming
called AutoStreamer. There are also lots of web sites that have the
Step-by-Step instructions. Good luck with resolving it.

Hi Simmons,

You could give the "Comprehensive rebuild method" in the following page a
try, before proceeding to a repair installation.

Repairing and re-registering the WMI:
