WM closes when Subscribing to news groups

Window mail shows news groups but, when I click subscribe then click OK
Windows Mail encouters a problem, closes and restarts. I'm only using Win
Mail for news, Outlook for Mail.

Any ideas appreciated

Make sure antivirus software is set not to scan email (yeah, its news, but
the AV stuff doesn't know better). see point 3 here:

You can also try compacting and repairing the WinMail database using my
Windows Mail utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/), which might help.

Thanks, Steve. That fixed the problem. My previous AV program evidently
didn't scan news however, a few weeks ago I installed the beta version of
Sunbelt Software's VIPRE AV. Thinking back, that is when I started having a
problem with news. I've sent in bug report so perhaps, they will add in a
workaround for their release version.
