Hi,
I have a wireless issue with Vista I think, I have a basic network with a
wireless Linksys router. I can connect to the router just fine and is says I
have great reception etc... But I can't get to the Internet, when I hover
over the wirelesss connection it says that I have only a local connection,
is there a way to change that so I can access the Internet?

Do you already have a SSID Network with a Security Key set up???
You don't auto jump on the Net with wireless; a network has to be set up
first.

When you post in the Network forum, explain what kind of Broadband connection
and modem you have and how it's set up. You can find lots of help in Vista.
Go to Network and Sharing Center to set up your network and Internet
Connection.

Thank you for your post.

In order to narrow down the issue, please answer the following questions
first.

1. Please open Windows Command Prompt and type the following two commands:

'ipconfig /all' and 'netsh wlan show all', then please send me the output
of these commands.

2. Please use Ping command (for example, type 'ping 192.168.1.x' in Windows
Command Prompt.) to check whether you could ping your Gateway IP address
from your Vista machine.

3. Please check whether the internet connection settings on Linksys router
are configured correctly, you may check whether other computers which are
connected to the router can access internet.

4. Please try wired connection on the same Vista machine and check whether
the situation will improve.

5. Please tell me the wireless settings configured on your Linksys routers.

Hello Neo,
Thanks for the response here are the answers to most of your questions, I'm
not on site but I remember most of it:

1.) When I do the ipconfig/all I receive
192.168.1.105
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1
I don't remember what DNS I was getting but it's the right one, I inputted
it into the router myself.
2.) I can ping the router.
3.) All the other computer can access the Internet (All of them are XP Pro
and some of them are wireless too), also if I'm connected via an Ethernet
cable I
can access the Web as well only when I'm wireless then I can't access the
Internet.
4.)Sorry I answered this in number 3 again I connect just fine to the
Internet with a wired connection
5.)The wireless settings are pretty basic, the SSID is unique so I can
easily identify it from the workstation
it's in Mixed mode for the wireless connection as far as b/g, I have WEP as
the encrpytion.
I'm not to sure of anything else you might need.
6.)I went to the Linksys link that you gave me and they just really had some
basic setup information which
I already have in place.

information and send me the output when you are available to do this.

You might use "netsh wlan show all >D:\wlan.txt" to save the output in the
wlan.txt file under drive D and then copy the content into your reply.

Moreover, please check whether the driver of wireless Network Adapters is
the latest one as well as the firmware of your Linksys router.

Please also check whether there are any wireless related error logs
recorded on Linksys router.
