Wireless Wizard

I'm using XP pro and in the control panel we have the 'Wireless Network
Setup Wizard'.
What is the purpose and/or point of using this facility?
I've recently purchased a D-link wireless modem and adaptor and I've been
advised
not to use the wizard but instead use the software that came with the
equipment.
Well, I can understand that, It's a;ways better to use the software that
comes with what you buy, but I have a couple of queries.
1. If you need to use the software bundled with the equipment and not use
the wizard
then what is the point of the wizard?
2. I'm assuming that you don't use the bundled software AND the wizard
together?
3. Maybe the wizard is used if you don't have the bundled software?
4. Is the 'Wizard' worth using?

To setup your wireless network, you can use either D-Link's wizard, or
Windows' wizard. Your choice. Each does the same job.

Once your network is setup, you can manage it with D-Link's own
software, or with Windows Wireless Zero Configuration. Your choice. Each
does the same job.

Whether you choose D-Link's software, Windows or another application -
like the Network Magic software included with your D-Link equipment - is
entirely up to you. Neither has overwhelming advantages or disadvantages.

No matter what software you use, the most important thing is to setup
the highest possible level of security. That means, among other things:

* change the default SSID
* disable SSID broadcasting
* turn on MAC filtering
* use WPA2 encryption with a strong password (at least 20 characters.)

Glad to help.

Before I forget: Make sure to password-protect the configuration utility
(192.168.0.1) and use a killer password.

Ok, I won't be installing it for a few days. I'm sure I'll have more
questions then.
'Till then, chow
