wireless speed limit (3 times slower than max. speed)

I have a 3Mbit internett speed, but when using the wireless
connection, I only get speeds below 100 kBps. When using a
cable to connect to the router, I get speeds above 300kBps.
So every download I am doing with a wireless connection
will not go faster than 100kBps. But if I have several
downloads sessions at once, the total speed reaches the
maximun which is approxemately 300kBps.
So it has to be sort of a speed limit within the xp system
(Im using XP pro). Ive heard of other people dealing with
the same problems as I do. Can someone please help me? It
is very annoying not to be able to use my entire bandwitch
in one simple download session.

Do you have encryption enabled on your wireless
connection? If it is enabled, it will slow down your
throughput. If you're going to use wireless make sure
that you keep encryption enable though. Too many snoops
out there that will capture your data.

well, I dont have encryption at the moment, because I
wanted to check the maximum speed. Im using a mac
limitation on our network. Is that enough? But the strange
thing is that I can get maximun speed if I have several
download sessions simultaneously. I can only get like
100kBps pr. download. It has to be an option some place
where I can uncheck this limitation or something. Don't
you think?

Hi André,
I was wondering if your problem was ever resolved? I'm in a similar situation...

I just got a brand new 12Mbps connection through Comcast and when plugged directly into the SMC modem I almost top out at 12Mbps. But when I plug the modem into my WRT54G v1 and connect to it wirelessly, I'm lucky to receive 3Mbps.

If I connect to the router via cat5, I get close to 10Mbps. If I wire a WAP54G v2.07 into the WRT54G (where I'm getting 10Mbps), I'm still only getting up to 3Mbps off the WAP54G wireless signal.

I'm running DD-WRT v24 on the router and have checked all the settings, reset it, hit it, etc.. Nothing seems to speed up the wireless connection.

I know the equipment is 5+ years old, is this the problem?\
Any suggestions?
Thanks
