Limited internet speed on windows

Hi, I am Windows user, always have been. :) But I have a problem:

My internet speed is 256 kbps down and 128 kbps up, but all my downloads are
limited to 27 kbps! Whats up with that? Me and my mom use Limewire to share
family home videos :), but my downloads are limited to 27 kbps while her's
are at 150 kbps and higher, so is XP limiting my speed?

Thank you in advance.

Check your B's. (bytes vs. bits)

Are you sure that your download speed is not 27 KBps (notice
upper case B).

27 KBps (upper case B) is approx. equal to 256 kbps (lower case b).

In other words, using my connection as an example, I have:

6,210,584 bps
which is
6.21 Mbps
which is
630 KB/sec

Go here:

and get the real scoop (Jave runtime required).
