wireless question

I am placing my wireless pc about 15' away from the source. It will need to
go through 3 walls at that distance (frame house). Is it likely to work?

They review a lot of wireless gear here. I think this was part of
Tomshardware at one point. It looks like the only consequence in
this case, was a reduction in data rate. They didn't lose service
entirely.

When a wireless technology says it supports "X" rate, generally
under best case, you get "X divided by 2", and then depending on
how crappy the antenna situation is, it goes downhill from there.

Depends on the materials use in construction. If the wall board is metal
clad ...NO.

Another problem is if the walls are filled with foil backed insulation. The
reflective properties of that or foil backed wall board can block the best
of the routers.

Unfortunately all one can do is to try it and see how things work. I have
seen some buildings so well insulated with foil insulation or foil backed
wall board that the signals would not go through even one thickness of wall.
For those sites we had to place the router or a repeater in the basement or
attic.

Well, I will try it and see. Once I get the wireless part set up, I can
move away from my present source and see how it goes. If I have to move
the access point close to the site, it'll cost me some, but it's do-able.
