just bought the new wireless optical wheel mouse 2.0, had
it about a few days but i've only just noticed that the
optical led stays on (dimly) even when the pc is turned
off. i know it has the new power saving functions but i
did not notice this when i first bought it. is it a fault
(should i return it for a new one) or are my observation
skills a pile of crap!!

Since the laser is powered directly by the battery, and there is no on/off
switch on the mouse, it will always be lit,

However, since the base station gets its power from the USB or PS/2 ports it
is connected to, the L.E.D. indicators on it should turn off when power
ceases to flow to the computer.

Perhaps you are not turning off the power strip your tower or system unit is
connected to when you turn off the computer. As long as the power strip is
turned on, there will be power flowing to the tower or system unit; and as
long as there is power flowing to the system unit, there will be power
flowing to the USB or PS/2 connectors

Not familiar with this mouse, but many wireless mouses will turn
themselves off if left *immobile* for a given number of minutes. Check
the documentation carefully. If it has a synch button on the bottom of
the mouse, this can be held in until the LED turns off on some mouses.

cheers

but the reciever connected to the pc turns off as it
should. its the actual optical led on the mouse that
doesn't. i've now noticed that after some time of it
being left undisturbed it will blink on and off instead.
is this just ms' new 'power saving' solution?

Notice what I said about the laser on the mouse: "Since the laser is
connected directly to the battery, and there is no on/off switch on the
mouse, it will be lit all the time."
